- Storyline: Something bizarre has come over the land. The kingdom is deteriorating. People are beginning to act strange... made me smile, cry, dance, hate, love and feel.. witch i can not say ido with Disney movies.
This production is a more heavy Gibli movie - but non the less apleasant experience. watch this if you want a calm paced movie with agood fantasy story. ---------------- After reading the ratings fromother people at this forum - i must disagree. this movie is a typicalGibli movie - with its own hand drawn-looking style. Easy pace - bigspaces & landscapes - wired animals( some cameos from other Giblistudio productions) and wizards and allot of magic. a perfect receiptfor a wonderful enjoyable 1,5 hour.
The pace is a bit slower then other Gibli productions - but this movieis a loosely remake from a book by y Ursula K. Le Guin.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tales_from_Earthsea_(film) - books I'vered in my childhood. and enjoyed allot morso compared with other greatwriters like Tolkien - also this story is different from other Giblimovies: made for an older audience.... gone is the kiddie stuff.
So of-course - those who do not know the premise of the movie mightfind it hard to understand... - that could be an argument to blow thismovie off as a bad movie experience - that is not the case here. thismovie is not hard at all to understand - and its actually less " weird"then other Gibli productions. the only thing you have to do is: diveinto the Universe of the earhsea.. About the drawings.. not better thenother gibli movies - but i do not find the hand drawn style bad at all- they have managed to keep the style of Gibli from the 80 til now -and thats not bad at all..
to sum things up for those who wish to watch this movie:
1. a slow paced well told animated movie for an elder Gibli audience 2.made for earth-sea fans.. i reckon!..or for those who like fantasystories. 3. animation style has a hand drawn feeling - and for someaudience might not suit them because the more grown up subjects and theoverall tone in the movie. 4. a 100% must-see 5. if you get boredeasily or your mind tend to wonder after 2 minutes of non-action thendon't see this movie.
