Every time I watch this film, and I've seen it more times than I canremember, I'm always astonished by the freshness of the story, the power ofthe emotions it conveys and the beautiful, detailed images of a time longgone. That this film was made in the 1930's is almost incomprehensible tome. The challenges that had to be overcome in order to bring it to lifemusthave been monumental. But come to life it did, and still does! A triumph offilm-making ingenuity and genius, that will live on for many generations tocome.
