- Storyline: On their way to Riker's and Troi's honeymoon, the Enterprise is sent near the neutral zone to Romulan space, and picks up a prototypic twin of android Data. Immediately they are further sent to Romulus, where a new praetor, Shinzon, a human cloned from Captain Picard who lives on the slave planet Remus, appears to want peace with the Federation. But then the crew detects a break-in on their computer systems, and Picard is captured by the Remans because Shinzon needs him as his only matching supplier of genetic material. Picard and the Enterprise can escape, only to find themselves battling Shinzon's completely cloaked Warbird, who is after the complete destruction of earth. This film started off on a good note. The wedding scene was warm andlovely. But where o where were the O'Briens?? Surely Miles and Keikowould have been there. Wesley Crusher was... But these characters havealways been good together and hugely watchable because of this. Thediscovery of the B4 android was an interesting idea, if a littleboringly executed. If he had been given a glimmer of personality itwould have been so much more interesting. Shinzon's story was a bitvague, but I thought Tom Hardy was quite good, in honesty could havebeen a lot worse. Just look at the S'ona in Insurrection for example.Boring. Shinzon's intent and general hatred for humanity was wellwritten and could have been explored and expanded so much more. Thebattle in space was real good and so badly needed in a Trek film.Data's sacrifice was touching but a real cop out when B4 startedhumming Riker's wedding 'present' tune at the end. But, this set upthings for Data to return, echoing the circumstances of 'The Wrath OfKhan' where Spock sacrificed himself, only to return in the next movie.Trek fans shouldn't slate this film too much as it had a lot ofelements that usually please fans. Seen the cuts which had been made tothe film recently, one of which explains Wesley's Starfleet uniform.Hope to see a Director's cut of this soon as these scenes explain a lot
